Unsure about flights..?

I've always been adamant about flying Qantas or Virgin airlines because they haven't ever crashed however they can be very expensive. I'm going abroad later in the year and found a much cheaper flight with Korean Air. I'm very wary of the crash back in 1997, but flying with them saves me nearly $1000. How have they improved safety and what are your experiences with Korean Air? What would you recommend?
