I wanted to start quilting just for something to do but... does it really have to be SOOOO complicated?

soo i have a bunch of boys clothes that are stained or have hole and i thought i'd cut good squares out and make a quilt so i looked more up more on qulits and found that they have to be more the squares cant i just do squares yes it dull but i'm not good at anything art-ish..... I could just do squares couldn't i???
