Out of curiousity, what are the statistics for the percent of American teenagers who do drugs and drinking?

And WHY, as a 16 year old girl who has never touched drugs in her life, do I keep meeting potential friends who have screwed up their lives by doing this? WHY do people do this? Why are there so many of them, too?
