Okay in movies the bad guy usually has the lights off, fireplace & a big gl with little burben? in it? why?

Yes, it's supposed to Brandy or Cognac and it's not about the amount of liquor, but the size of the gl. The snifter is called a snifter because it's wide round shape and narrow opening allow the brandy's aroma to leave the liquor as it is swirled in the gl and yet is retained in the gl to be enjoyed by the drinker as it is sipped, adding to the sipper's enjoyment/appreciation...get it...snifter! As for rich bad guys drinking it, looks cool and sophisticated and good cognac is very expensive.
